This lecture was given on September 23, 1960 at the Thomas More Institute in Montreal. Corresponds with chapter 3 in vol. 6 of Lonergan's Collected Works, Philosophical and Theological Papers 1958-1964. The question of what is meant by history is addressed as well as the different types of history; occasional history, technical history, explanatory history. From there Lonergan moves on to the topic, Philosophy of..., It is described in terms of species or genus; philosophy of nature, science, spirit, man, law, religion, education, art, and history. Finally, philosophy of history. Here Lonergan reflects on the history that is written as opposed to the history that written about, dialectic, stages, the good and the problem of evil.
