History 1969:1

CD/mp3 505, first part of 1969 lecture on history. Sponsored by Bro. Martin J. Murphy, S.J. Lonergan begins by stating that history must be discussed in terms both of the upper blade that is found in chapter 20 of Insight and of the lower blade of historical investigation. The discussion focuses on the latter, however, on the technical part of doing history, in which the historian comes to know what wasn't known before. The lecture consists in Lonergan's reading a version of what became chapter 8 in Method in Theology, with a few variations, interpolations, and expansions.
